'I'm a rockstar not a parent': Rihanna defends controversial new video showing her murdering a rapist

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Controversial: Rihanna's video for her new single Man Down has attracted criticism

Rihanna has defended her controversial new music video Man Down, insisting 'this is the real world'.

Taking to Twitter today the singer attacked her critics, claiming she was a 'rockstar not a parent' and saying she had 'the freedom to make art'.

Man Down attracted the wrath of the Parents Television Council, who blasted Rihanna for showing a 'cold, calculated execution of murder'.

Violent: Rihanna is seen hiding in the shadows with a gun in her hand as she seeks revenge

The video shows her taking revenge on a rapist by gunning him down in a crowded train station.

But Rihanna, herself a victim of domestic violence, disagreed with the criticism.

'I'm a 23 year old rockstar with NO KIDS! What's up with everybody wanting me to be a parent? I'm just a girl, I can only be your/our voice!' she wrote.

Revenge: Her attacker lies sprawled on the floor after Rihanna kills him

And in an apparent direct response to the PTC she added: 'Cuz we all know how difficult/embarrassing it is to communicate touchy subject matters to anyone especially our parents!

'The music industry isn't exactly Parents R Us! We have the freedom to make art, LET US! Its your job to make sure they don't turn out like US.'

The council said in a statement: 'Rihanna's personal story and status as a celebrity superstar provided a golden opportunity for the singer to send an important message to female victims of rape and domestic violence.

'Instead of telling victims they should seek help, Rihanna released a music video that gives retaliation in the form of premeditated murder the imprimatur of acceptability.'

Flashback: After starting with the murder, the video goes back to the previous day when Rihanna was carefree

Island life: The video is set in Kingston, Jamaica

Media justice group Industry Ears also criticised BET for airing the video.

'If Chris Brown shot a woman in his new video and BET premiered it, the world would stop,' Industry Ears co-founder Paul Porter said.

'Rihanna should not get a pass and BET should know better. The video is far from broadcast worthy.'

Today, a defiant Rihanna praised her fans for their support, tweeting: 'Thank you for the amazing response on ManDownVideo I love you guys, and I love that u GOT IT!!'
It's the second time in as many weeks Rihanna attracted criticism from the PTC - she was slammed for her kinky performance with Britney Spears at the Billboard Awards.

Did Rihanna get inked AGAIN? Singer who already has 14 tattoos visited New York parlour

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Another one? Rihanna visited a New York tattoo parlour yesterday reportedly to add to the already 14 designs she has all over her body

Rihanna is known for her love of tattoos and so far has at least 14 etchings on her skin.

But the Bajan beauty has seemingly got addicted to inking and may be adding to her collection.

The 23-year-old visited a tattoo parlour in New York yesterday and seemed to be on a mission to get a new design.

Revealing: The 23-year-old wore a dress that had a thigh-high split as she entered the tattoo parlour

Rihanna wore a short-sleeved long black dress with a thigh-high split.

She dressed down her ensemble with flat black sneakers and carried a large denim Prada bag.

Her long flame hair cascaded over her shoulders in wavy curls and she carried a red rose that a fan gave her just before she entered the store.

Meet: Rihanna has been nominated for six BET Awards and will likely encounter her ex-boyfriend Chris Brown at the June 26 show who has also been nominated

It's not yet known what the feisty star had done but it will only be a matter of time before she shows it off if she had a new one added.

Her much talked about long red tresses have apparently been inspired by The Little Mermaid.

Rihanna tweeted a picture of herself yesterday writing: 'Touch ups... Ariel style', referring to the long haired half-woman half-fish Disney creature.

Fiery red: Rihanna's new long tresses were inspired by Ariel from The Little Mermaid

The Umbrella songstress was in New York to kick off The Today Show's summer concert series.

It was announced last week that the star has received four BET Award nominations including a nod for Best R & B Artist.

If she attends the live awards show on June 26 in Los Angeles, she will no doubt bump into ex-boyfriend Chris Brown, who is up for a leading six BET Awards, including Best Male R&B Artist and Video of the Year.

As Mail Online reported two weeks ago, Rihanna and Chris Brown are now following each other on Twitter.

The on-line gesture came two years after the infamous assault that Rihanna suffered at the hands of Brown, her then boyfriend.

Now come new reports that the two may be hooking up in secret.

Rihanna split with Brown in 2009 after he attacked her, but had her restraining order against him lifted in February so that they could both attend the Grammy Awards.

A source tells The UK's Now magazine that the two have been seeing more of each other and are even thinking of getting back together.

Rihanna Says She is Not Joining 'X Factor'

Rihanna is setting the record straight regarding rumors that she may be the next big name to score a judging position on Simon Cowell's 'The X Factor.'

The singer, who's one of many celebrities that have been thrown in the pot to possibly join the show, explained that scheduling conflicts prevented her from heading to the singing competition.

"I just heard about it actually, but, yes," she said on Ryan Seacrest's radio show regarding the rumor. "It's something that I would have loved to do, actually. But our schedule doesn't allow and it's a demanding schedule to be on that show. You have to be around months at a time, which is impossible for me."

Other names that have been brought up include Black Eyed Peas member Fergie and Nicki Minaj. Although the latter rap star has since refuted the reports, aside from former Def Jam chairman L.A. Reid, the other judges have yet to be announced. Reid stepped down from his top position at the label last month, and revealed that he will miss the high profile gig.

"I loved the artist roster that we created at Island Def Jam and I love the company and yes, it was difficult. It still is difficult," the longtime music executive told MTV News. "I heard about a remix that Rihanna did with Britney Spears [for 'S&M'] and I was like, 'It's the first time some music has been done that I wasn't involved with and I don't know if I like that or not.' I don't know."

Cowell's show, which originated in the U.K., is among the many singing competitions set to rival his former job at 'American Idol.' Auditions for 'X Factor' resume in Kansas City on April 15.

Rihanna on Chris Brown: (We Don't Have to Talk Ever Again in My Life)

Rihanna on Chris Brown: 'We Don't Have to Talk Ever Again in My Life'
In her Rolling Stone cover story, Rihanna reveals why she agreed to loosen the stipulations of a
restraining order against ex-boyfriend Chris Brown. "I just didn't want to make it more difficult for him professionally. What he did was a personal thing -- it had nothing to do with his career. Saying he has to be a hundred feet away from me, he can't perform at awards shows -- that definitely made it difficult for him." But the "S&M" singer assures that "it doesn't mean we're gonna make up, or even talk again," adding she and Brown "don't have to talk ever again in my life." (Rolling Stone)

Rihanna graces the cover of Rolling Stone's April issue, and the 'S&M' singer is bound to turn a few heads with this one.

Her barely there booty shorts, fantastically short, shredded and silver, are eye-catching to say the least. Rihanna has been sporting her Kool-Aid-red locks for some time now, but especially voluminous curls make this cover shot ever-so-sultry.

Earlier this month Rihanna revealed her fitness secrets when she posed for a Vogue photo shoot with famed photographer Annie Leibovitz.

The new issue of Rolling Stone, which includes a never-before-seen interview with Elizabeth Taylor, hits stands April 1.

Rebecca Black Respects Rihanna for (How She Came Out of The Chris Brown Thing)

Justin Bieber isn’t the only artist Rebecca Black looks up to! The 13-year-old Internet singing sensation also loves Rihanna, and not only for her powerhouse singing chops.

Rebecca respects Rihanna for how she handled herself after the 2009 assault involving her then-boyfriend Chris Brown.
“Rihanna, how she came out of the Chris Brown thing so strong, that is amazing to me,”Rebecca told Entertainment Weekly when asked what artists she looks up to.

Both artists have worked hard to but the past behind them, Chris struggling the most with trying to move on. The 22-year-old singer had a meltdown Tuesday after an interview with Robin Roberts on Good Morning America where  he was asked about legal issues stemming from the 2009 assault case.

He has issued his apologies and is trying to focus on promoting his latest album F.A.M.E.

While on his promotional tour, Chris was asked about Rebecca’s viral hit, and at first he mocked the ditty, but then ended up endorsing it.

“Honest opinion? It was great. I’ll be jammin’ to it on Friday, Friday,” he sang on Washington’s Hot 99.5 radio station during an interview last week.

So what does the future of Rebecca’s career have in store?

“That’s not a question you should ask me,”  she told EW. “My parents just throw song ideas at me, and I’ve been listening to a billion different songs.”

And her goal is to get people moving with future hits.

“Dance anthem-like stuff, very teen-like pop songs, stuff like that,” Rebecca said of future songs she is planning.

Justin Bieber and Rihanna to Be Featured on Japan Aid Album

Universal Music Group has announced that it will be releasing a digital-only compilation album featuring some of the label's biggest stars, in an attempt to raise funds for tsunami-stricken Japan.

Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, U2 and Bon Jovi are all expected to appear on the album, waiving their royalties so that the entire proceeds will go towards Red Cross Japan.

"We are doing it only digitally because it is faster, and this will be a worldwide release. The plan is to have it available later this week," a spokesperson for Universal explained. The as-yet-unfinished compilation will likely feature several other artists from the label.

Gaga lost no time in joining the relief effort, tweeting that she had designed a special prayer bracelet on Friday, March 11, just hours after the earthquake shook Japan. In two days, Gaga and her loyal fans had raised over $250,000.

Singer Ne-Yo is also contributing to the country's aid by performing at several charity concerts in Japan , one of which took place Yesterday, and another on Thursday, March 24.

Rihanna Spills Fitness Secrets to Vogue

Rihanna is no stranger to showing skin, but her Vogue shoot, in which she rocks some undeniably sexy Jessica Rabbit red hair, may be the most tasteful body shots the pop star has done to date.

She frolics on the beach in a Lanvin silk dress blown over her thighs, and her curves are on full display in an Herve Leger one-piece as she strikes a back bend in some Alexander Wang open-toe booties.

Rihanna is in the best shape of her life after preparing for her role in the blockbuster 'Battleship,' and it shows. She's given up her staples of junk food and pasta. Her trainer Ary Nunez has been strapping weights to her hands so she could multitask while working out.

"I hate going to the gym and doing it the old-fashioned way," Rihanna admits to the mag. "I hate anything that's too straightforward, too routine. I get bored really, really quickly."

Style has always mattered to the 23-year-old, but she has recently embraced a grown-up version of her funky, down-to-earth look that keeps beauty bloggers on their toes.

"When I was fourteen and first started going out, I always wanted to be the opposite of everyone else," she says. "So I would go to the club in a polo T-shirt and pants and sneakers and a hat on backward, just so I would not be dressed like other girls. And I got desperate for things that weren't available in Barbados. I would cut things out of magazines. I was obsessed with creating a visual with clothing, and the way things are combined."

Her highly publicized breakup with Chris Brown, which included him pleading guilty to assault, hasn't been the hardest part of the past couple of years for Rihanna.

Finding out her father, who was a crack addict when she was growing up, sold childhood photos of her to a tabloid magazine was much more painful.

"It really makes me question what I have become to my father. Like, what do I even mean to him?" she says. "It's really strange. That's the only word I can think of to describe it, because you grow up with your father, you know him, you are part of him, for goodness' sakes! And then he does something so bizarre that I can't begin to wrap my mind around it. You hear the horror stories about people going behind people's backs and doing strange things, but you always think, Not my family. My father would never do that to me."

Rihanna Opens Up About Betrayal by Her Father

Rihanna is doing more than just striking a pose in the new issue of Vogue Magazine; the singer is also opening up about her relationship with her father.

RiRi, who has been estranged from her father, Ronald Fenty, for some time, revealed she felt betrayed after he gave up details about her to the media, without her consent.

"Like, what do I even mean to him?" she told the magazine, breaking into tears. "It's really strange. That's the only word I can think of to describe it, because you grow up with your father, you know him, you are a part of him, for goodness' sakes! And then he does something so bizarre that I can't begin to wrap my mind around it."

Rihanna continues, "You hear the horror stories about people going behind people's backs and doing strange things, but you always think, Not my family. My father would never do that to me."

The disloyalty began after the incident with Chris Brown, in which the singer became a media target. Following Brown's assault she remained mum about the attack, but her father continued to do interviews as if he had spoken with his daughter, even though that wasn't the case.

"That was the first time," she revealed. "My dad went to the press and just told them a bunch of lies. Because he hadn't talked to me after... that whole thing.... He never called to find out how I was doing, if I was alive, nothing. He just never called. He went straight to the press and got a check. And now he does it again."

In previous interviews, the Grammy winner opened up about her strained relationship with her father, telling the U.K.'s Daily Mirror in 2007, that he was a drug addict. These days Rihanna is done trying to repair the relationship. "Now I'm like, whatever, I tried."

Although her bond with her father appears to be broken, the 23-year-old remains close with her mother and two brothers

Kesha - Ke$ha Hooks Up at Rihanna Show

Ke$ha may have distracted concertgoers at a recent Rihanna show in Australia by nearly fornicating with someone in the audience.

The 'Sleazy' singer was in Australia and decided to fly to Rihanna's Melbourne show on Tuesday to hook up -- literally -- with Scottish DJ Calvin Harris, who she supported during his 2009 U.K. tour. Harris, who is currently supporting Rihanna on her Last Girl on Earth tour, was joined by Ke$ha at the Rod Laver Arena Tuesday night. The two were spotted all over one another before they finally left the show early.

"They were getting right into it," said sources to the Melbourne Herald Sun. "They were practically fornicating. They were all over each other and didn't care who was watching."

The 'Blow' singer is never bashful when it comes to sex and recently announced that her face would be on 10,000 condoms -- most of which will be handed out at her shows.

Ke$ha, currently on her Get Sleazy tour, also joined Rihanna during her summer U.S. tour last year. In between sexing things up on tour, Ke$ha recently penned Britney Spears' second single 'Till The World Ends' and announced that she's working on a dance remix album

Rihanna Doesn't Want Whitney Houston Remake Role

Without exactly being asked, Rihanna has clarified that she isn't interested in filling Whitney Houston's shoes in an upcoming remake of the 'The Bodyguard.'

Rihanna tells OK! magazine she won't take on the role of singer Rachel Marron, played by Houston in the 1992 hit film, because it wouldn't be challenging enough for her. Rihanna says that she would like to escape into a role rather than play a singer.

"Absolutely not," Rihanna says. "I want to separate the two. I hate it when singers do singing movies all the time, because you can never look at them as anybody else."

Rihanna will have a chance to escape in her upcoming role -- also her big screen debut -- in the upcoming 'Battleship' movie, based on the classic Hasbro board game of the same name. The film, out May 2012, also stars 'True Blood' actor Alexander Skarsgard and Taylor Kitsch and follows a naval fleet that must protect earth against an alien attack. It's not clear who Rihanna will play in the film, but she was photographed wearing a Navy uniform on location in Hawaii last year.

"I want to play a character," said Rihanna. "My whole life is playing Rihanna, [so] being a singer [in a film] won't be a stretch for me. I like challenges, and being an actor is playing a role, being able to step into somebody else's shoes, that's the excitement."

Other divas who have been rumored for the famous Houston role are Beyonce and Jennifer Hudson. Writers Jeremiah Friedman and Nick Palmer have already signed on to pen the remake, but there's still no word on a director or who will fill the role of the actual bodyguard, Frank Farmer, made famous by Kevin Costner in the original film

Rihanna Poses Nude for Ad Campaign

Nivea cosmetics have recruited Rihanna to be the face of their latest promotional campaign.

The 23-year-old singer posed nude for Nivea's new ad campaign, 'The 100 Years of Skincare for Life,
' which commemorates the brand's 100th anniversary this year. The official promotion will launch in May, in conjunction with the kick-off of Rihanna's 'Loud' world tour, which will now be sponsored by Nivea.

"Over the past 100 years, Nivea has been an iconic skincare brand across the world that is built on the trust of our consumers," Nivea board member Markus Pinger said in a statement. "We are excited to have Rihanna supporting us in our celebration and building a new generation of fans."

The last time Rihanna was in the news for posing nude, the headlines weren't as flattering. Candid photos that RiRi sent of herself to someone with her cell phone surfaced in May 2009. The images surfaced three months after she was infamously assaulted by Chris Brown the night before the Grammys, leading people to believe he leaked the photos, which he later denied.

In addition to prepping for her upcoming tour, Rihanna recently wrapped up a series of high-profile appearances at the Grammys, where she was joined by Drake to perform her single 'What's My Name?,' and at the NBA All-Star Game halftime show where she performed with both Drake and Kanye West. Following her performance at the All-Star Game, Rihanna rang in her 23rd birthday with a lavish, star-studded party sponsored by Nivea

Jay-Z Worried About Rihanna's Deteriorating Health Due to Punishing Schedule

When Rihanna performed at the NBA All-Star Game last month, it was apparent her typically stellar vocals were a bit on the weak side, as the singer was reportedly suffering from a bout with bronchitis. The singer
hasn't really taken any down time to deal with her health problems by easing up on her appearances, which has caused longtime mentor and friend Jay-Z to take notice.

According to Look Magazine (as quoted by MTV UK), Jay-Z is worried that the 23-year-old is being overworked and that her current schedule is causing her health to deteriorate. "Rihanna's professional, works hard and stays away from drugs and alcohol, but Jay wants her to be careful," a source told the publication.

During the Grammy Awards in February, the 'S&M' songstress fell ill with bronchitis and laryngitis, yet still managed to perform despite the setback such sicknesses could cause her in the longrun. To help Rihanna get her vocals back in tip-top shape, the 'Empire State of Mind' rapper suggests she takes a much needed break.

"[Jay-Z] told her to take a holiday for a week –- she's been working flat out and needs to get over the bronchitis, which he's sure she's developed as a result of stress," the source continued. "He told her she'll be all right, but to keep her head down."

The magazine also reports that Jay-Z is concerned the red-haired singer could resume contact with former flame Chris Brown, now that a judge recently reduced a restraining order against him. Brown's order is now a level one, granting him the right to have contact with Rihanna so long as he does not "harass, annoy or molest her.

Louis Farrakhan Calls Rihanna's Performance 'Filthy' and Her Fans (Swine)

Nation of Islam leader Minister Louis Farrakhan is famous for his outspoken ideals on politics and current events, but these days the controversial Muslim speaker has a bone to pick with an unlikely target: Rihanna.

Farrakhan, who delivered his annual Savior's Day Speech near Chicago on Sunday (Feb. 27), blasted the pop star for her scantily clad style of dress and sexually suggestive dance moves, writing her off as "filthy" and calling her fans "swine," a term which he also reserved for gays and lesbians.

Not one to keep her mouth closed, Rihanna quickly responded to Farrakhan's rants. "A minister says I perform filthy, sat+watched the filth, then called u SWINE for doin the same! Haa, Is that judgment in ur tone?" she tweeted on Monday. "I certainly don't think u are swine! But a holy man of God does!!!"

During his speech, held at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Ill., the 77-year-old also praised Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard for creating the religion to "civilize white people," and discussed his longstanding friendship with Libyan leader Muammar el-Qaddafi. Farrakhan vowed to stick by him in light of his alleged crimes against humanity, as citizens in his country are calling for him to step down.

While Qaddafi remains the forefront of the uprising in the North African country, singers Beyonce, Mariah Carey and Usher have all been pressured to return funds received from the leader for past performances. Nelly Furtado has announced that she will give the $1 million she received for performing for Qaddafi's family to charity.

In the past, Farrakhan has had a good standing rapport with several members of the hip-hop and entertainment community, embracing the likes of Snoop Dogg, Russell Simmons and Wyclef Jean
