In or Out: Katie Holmes

Smirking for no discernible reason.

Katie Holmes heading to dinner after presenting her new Holmes & Yang collection.
She's wearing a The Row tee, Nina Ricci cardigan, and a Lanvin skirt.

Obviously this isn't exactly a red carpet situation, but there were photographers, she was hawking her merch, and she clearly expected to be photographed for the occasion, so it's all fair game according to the T Lo Rules of Appropriate Bitchery.

She's "joked" that her toddler daughter picks her clothes out for her, and while that always sounded like one of those faux "I'm an exasperated mommy just like you" stories that celebrities use to connect with the public, it's kind of hard to conclude otherwise looking at these pictures. Never have so many lovely pieces been combined in such a wrong way. Looking at each piece separately; the skirt, top, cardigan, and even the shoes; we see quality and style. Put them all together in one outfit and each of them become instantly less fabulous and forms a whole that is so much less than the sum of its parts. The sin here is NOT bad accessorizing (for once); it's bad pairing. Not one of these pieces brings out anything in the other pieces. They all kind of sit on her, doing nothing, which is EXACTLY what an outfit picked out by a 4-year-old looks like.

Also, the hair is terrible. She looks limp and drab from top to bottom.

OUT.
